User Reviews about Spectrobes

Okay ladies and dorks, listen up! The time has come to Man Up, and what else is preferred besides fossil excavations and explosions? Disney pretends to forge a children's game from time to time, which is strange. And with a masterpiece such as Spectrobes, is there an adult on orb who would care less about embarking an adventure? As it turns out, Spectrobes is more than just an adventure: it is an experience, and a thrill of a Pen Stylus RPG. The plot itself is justly outspoken, as it involves (you guessed it) the Spectrobes. Rallen and Jeena are two young kids with order provisions taken from Commander Grant. "Nanairo," the intergalactic galaxy doohickey, is in world of peril. Enemy animals known none other as "the Krawl" have come to (you guessed it) wipe out all humanic populations. Rallen gets cornered during a fossil excavation in Daichi, a wandering star encircled by a visible bubble. And in that shadow of hopeless status, two Juraissic-like creatures poop out of his invested Prizemod device. The lingering jerks are sunk, and Rallen heads back to Jeena's mothership with the words "Awesome is a Spectrobe!" The gameplay would seem to be the spit and image of a typical role-playing title from the Playstation 2; however, Spectrobes proves to be less lame and more intriguing than Pokémon OR Final Fantasy XII. Gamers control a hot knock-off, Rallen, as he proves how bloodthirsty a blondie could be. He has two Spectrobic monsters to begin with, although his team will need to catch more of 'em. Making with additional Spectrobes involves fossil-digging. Fossil-digging is executed through the help various cranks: drills, blow pipes, dynamite, voice-recognition rays, and even Spectrobes themselves. Players will find the repetitive gameplay a bliss: grasp them dead organisms, awaken them through your PC System, and battle Krawl with a fresh army. Rinse and repeat. The animation is ragged to say the least, and each scene is represented through a fixed overhead camera. This vertical angle reminds me of Konami's "Mystical Ninja" (Nintendo 64), a gaming counterpart in reach of classic adventure cartridges. The presentation is in shreds, but the public will find charm in Disney's simplistic artistry. Jeena (Rallen's mamacita) has a nice Beatle, and I enjoyed examining each pre-historic creature. In addition to the grand Laboratory, the "Cube List" was helpful with its hint-obligation devices, helpful AND without forcing its gamers to pay close study. That said, Spectrobes feels more like a fair challenge than a bland medium with notched difficulty. The battles are easy to pick-up, but let me tell you: each battle is a war! All the antique beings (each foe and every Spectrobe) have unique attacks. Rallen himself is equipped with ridiculous weaponry, and that is to go with useless swords and squishy gauntlets. So as the gamer, YOU (yes, the player) have to maintain a strategic post. For example, if a Krawl member is able to use airbourne-assault, try dodging before laying out your end of the bargain. Dodge that oncoming freak of nature, and have Naguryu (a purple amphibian with fishheads for hands) install both fists with a strong blow. Jeena's mothership serves as the main checkpoint, and serves with the purpose of replenishing health and saving progress. Nintendo DS Spectrobes garners its audience with its imaginative dimension, one that does a favor with excellent music and an entrancing three-way script. First comes a complete painting, next "Spectrobes" by Disney, and FINALLY an annoying neighbor who plays Halo for a living. -- Spectrobes, Nintendo DSi
Spectrobes is a fun game,Its starts out with an NPP officer named Rallen getting a call from his superior to investigate a crash landing on a planet. It turns out it was an old mans space pod. He had come from another star system to learn more about the Spectrobes and to awaken more of them to fight planet eating creatures known as Krawl. It turns out that Mr.X (the old man) was too late to save his star system and the Krawl have sets there sights on Rallens (the hero) star system. It turns out Rallen is one of the few people who can handle the Spectrobes in there adult and evolved forms. And he gets tasked with saving the star system.

The gameplay of Spectrobes is fairly standard, its done in real time with you and your Spectobes moving around the 'arena' you use the L&R buttons to use your Spectrobes to attack and the A button to charge, you also use the face buttons to change Rallens weapons and to select the special attacks. I do find though that the battles, and the boss battles especially are a constant 'charge, special attack, charge, special attack' That you have to do until the bosses are dead. I was playing while tired and I almost fell asleep during a particular battle >.>

To get more spectrobes you have to have a child spectrobe to 'hunt' for more fossils and minerals, once you get a fossil and awake it,you can either use it as a hunter or put it in a incubator (you have 4 incubators, with room for 2 Spectrobes in each room) to evolve into an adult and you can keep it in there even longer to evolve into a Evolved from spectrobe. This sounds like a good concept, no? Well it is and it isn't,to evolve your spectobe you have to feed it minerals,a lot of minerals. If you try to feed all you spectrobes in all 4 incubators then you will soon find evolving you Spectrobes both unrewarding and painfully slow. The best way to do it is to feed your spectrobes 2 at a time, this speeds up the process dramatically and feels like your actually making progress.

Graphics wise,Spectrobes looks dated. The game is done almost entirely in 3D with the exception of the chat boxes and status screens witch are done in Anime style 2D. The 3D graphics are sort of cartoony looking from a distance, but when the screen zooms in on a victory shot,it looks like crap very early PS1 games would probably look better. Its even more noticeable when you just finish a game like Final Fantasy 4 witch pushes the graphical capabilities of the DS. I haven't popped in Spectrobes:Beyond the Portals yet. But from some screen shots it looks like they improved the graphics a good amount. Overall the game is particularly easy, and the stages are short and sweet. It has a good story and can keep you entertained for a double digit hour. -- Fun Game....
Spectrobes DS is a hand held RPG style game that involves collecting and fighting. Disney made this, and the graphics are rather impressive.

The basic story is that a boy and girl are flying around in a spaceship from planet to planet. The boy discovers "spectrobes" that work with his wrist device to help him attack enemies. You discover fairly quickly that the boy's individual attacks are weak - but the spectrobes are very powerful.

You find different spectrobes, build up their skills, and use them to help you fight enemies. You are also gathering up fossils along the way as well.

The graphics are great. The cut scenes have a smooth cartoon feel to them, and even during the fighting the little creatures are hopping around and being active. Disney did a great job here.

The sounds are fairly simple, but that is fine. You don't expect epic music out of a game like this.

The game might be a bit challenging for new gamers to get into. Especially in the beginning, the game doesn't "tutorialize" you much. You wander aimlessly around a planet and have to stand in the exact right spot to trigger the event. Your helper is not much help at all. When you launch into your first battle, you get a brief "press these buttons" and then that's it. You are hard pressed to remember all the things it said and you have no idea what does what. Plus since the main characters' attacks are so weak, you feel for a while that the battle is completely unwinnable and you are stuck in this combat screen forever.

Push past these initial problems. Yes they should have done a better job of guiding you through the initial sections of the game. Once you get the hang of the controls and how the system works, you'll find it a lot of fun.

Rating: 4/5 because of the not-well-ramped initial area -- Well done fight-gather game
I have not played this game myself... but my nine year old son LOVES it!!!! He has thanked me repeatedly for buying this game and continues to say it's the best game he has ever played! If you have a child around this age and need a new game... this is the one! -- wonderful game
Spectrobes evolved forms are some of the greatest forms that are almost the greatest, but the Goes are the best. My house has flies, there are barely any flying creatures in this game, but this games reminds me of my house. Battling for evolving minerals are the best way to help your Spectrobes. I really like it!
