User Reviews about Geometry Wars: Galaxies

Really difficult to describe this Xbox 360 classic. It is like a cross between Galaga and Tempest, Tempest as in player ship and Galaga as in wierd enemies. Take control of your "Drone" and shoot your way through batches of geometric-shaped foes to reach an ever-higher score. Time your lasers and bombs correctly, and keep an eye over those annoying black holes. In this particular DS cartridge, the difficulty tends to be on the easier side; however, its gameplay elements are the same. As a surprise, there is also a variety of solo missions to partake on with numerous planet-types to take landings in. The DS controls are not as precise because of the use of a D-pad over an analog thumbstick. Overall though, this is still a huge winner. -- Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Nintendo DSi
I feel this game was just okay. Then again, that maybe has something to do with the fact that I never actually felt the need to download and buy the full version of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for Xbox 360. I was just happy enough with the free demo. Or maybe that doesn't have much to do with it at all. Anyway, I thought I'd like this game more than I did, but for some reason, it didn't seem to quite catch my interest in the way I'd hoped. For "others" (like mentioned in the title of this review), this game is probably one of the best shoot-em-ups on the Nintendo DS. Basically, if you liked the original Geometry Wars a whole lot, or you're just a fan of old school gaming (with a twist) then you should probably check this out ASAP. For the rest of us (or maybe just me), it's just okay. I'm happy enough with the demo version of Geometry Wars on Xbox Live. -- Okay for some, great for others.
This was a very fun, entertaining game. It had simple controls, and a lot of cool maps. I had a neat little "drone" that help you with you mission and you could select what it was going to to/be (snipe, turret, collect the geoms etc.) and you could level it up by winning (or losing, as long as you get a certain amount of points) one problem I have with this game is that the main way to shoot is with the touch screen (you can shoot with the buttons but it's not very accurate) and it scratches it up. -- Very Fun! Just Hard On Your Touch Screen
Graphically, it's a step down from the XBLA version. Most people would expect this, I suppose, but I thought that since the DS is capable of some decent 3D graphics that they would be able to pull off a pretty close port of Geometry Wars. It still looks good, but it's got a very different feel, for me, now that all the sprites are 2D.

The touchscreen is great. You can choose to play with or without it. Without it is a little impractical since only eight directions are possible with the direction pad or ABXY buttons; the touchscreen allows full 360 degree aiming.

The gameplay itself is solid. The original Geometry Wars is packaged along with the new Galaxies gameplay mode. You can choose to play either one, and upload your scores via wifi if you fancy that.

Great game. Slightly disappointed that the graphics were noticeably downgraded from the XBLA version. -- I Enjoyed it More on Xbox Live Arcade
Just a FYI... this is the UK version of the game! I just ordered it and received the UK version and after talking to Amazon on the phone, this is the only seller selling this game so it's either UK or nothing. However, the Nintendo DS is region free so it should play perfectly fine.

As for the game itself... it's very fun. There are tons of levels so you'll never get bored. The controls are pretty good with the stylus, not as good as on Wii with the Classic Controller, but still fun. If you're a fan of Geometry Wars, then it's a must buy. If you're not a fan, I would still recommend it because it's only $20 and has plenty of levels to keep you playing for a while. -- Great game... but be warned!
